About FaithData

What is this?

FaithData is an interactive exploration of the world's religions, philosophical worldviews, and the arguments that shape our understanding of ultimate reality. The site presents data, visualizations, and tools to help users think critically about life's biggest questions.

Our Approach

  • Academic and neutral: We present each tradition and viewpoint with respect, without privileging any one over another.
  • Data-driven: Population figures come from Pew Research Center, World Religion Database, and academic sources. All numbers are approximate.
  • Philosophically rigorous: Arguments are sourced from published academic philosophy. Strength ratings are subjective but informed by philosophical literature.
  • Exploratory, not dogmatic: The convergence thesis is presented as an observation to consider, not a conclusion to accept.

Methodology

Population data is drawn primarily from the Pew Research Center's “The Future of World Religions” report and the World Religion Database. Growth rates are annualized estimates. Worldview probability estimates reflect ranges discussed in academic philosophy of religion — they are not consensus figures but informed starting points for personal reflection.

The “Common Threads” analysis examines primary texts and scholarly comparative religion sources. Universality scores reflect how many traditions teach a given principle and how central it is to each.
